IF ONE COMPARES THE 1960’S WITH THE 2020’S, WHAT HAS CHANGED. 1)
A. The average size of classroom has changed. In the early 60’s and late 50’s, classrooms were 28-35 kids controlled and taught by one teacher. 2)
In the 2020’s, class sizes are down by 20% in numbers, and in many classes it takes a teacher and a teaching assistant to control and teach. 3)
B. There has been a big change in the size of administrative staff. In some areas the school administrations have grown by 400% or more while numbers of students has declined compared to the 1960’s. 4)
C, In the 1960’s no one heard of police (resource officers) in schools - not part time or full time.
D. In the 1950’s there were behavioral problems, and sometimes fights, but violence against teachers was absent or very very rare. 5)
Today, violence in general is way up and violence against teachers is much more common.
E. And literacy and math competence rates in the 1960’s were much higher in most of the USA than they are today with some exceptions. 6)
AND NO, the difference is not guns, simply because more kids had more contact with guns, especially teens, in the 1960’s than is the situation today.
So, here is your chance to comment, to provide what you think are the reasons for this negative change." 7)
