You're not using the Notes app on your iPhone to its full potential.

8 features you might not know about:

1. Scan documents and add them as PDFs to your note:

1. Click on the photo icon
2. Select scan documents
3. Scan your documents and click save

You now have a pdf in your note that is searchable:

2. Copy and paste text from a physical document into your note:

1. Click on the photo icon
2. Select scan text
3. Locate your text and click insert

Your text is now in your note as if you had written it manually.

3. Enable the power of Quick Notes:

Go to Settings &gt; Control Centre and add Quick Note

You can now add a note from everywhere by swiping down in the right corner and tapping the Quick Note button. It also saves the context, displaying the note if you visit an URL you've saved.

4. Collaborate on a to-do or shopping list with ease:

1. Create your list
2. Click the share button
3. Make sure Collaborate is selected
4. Share the link with another user

Your list now syncs across your devices!

5. Create a password-protected note:

1. On your note, click … and select Lock.
2. The first time, choose to use your iPhone's code or a manual one. If you forget the manual code, your note won't be recoverable.
3. Your note now needs FaceId or a code to be seen

6. Organize your notes with smart folders:

Create a new folder by tapping "New Folder" in the bottom left corner and selecting "Make it Into Smart Folder". Here you can create different folders like:
- To do-lists you haven't checked
- Specific tags
- Pinned notes

7. Share folder

Share a notes folder by tapping ... and selecting "Share Folder."

When the invite is accepted, you can tag each other in the notes, and the other person will get a notification. You can also see all the activities in the folder.

8. Save a note as PDF (a hidden feature)

1. Open the note and tap share icon. Below the title, select Collaborate.
2. Tap on Collaborate and select Send a Copy. Swipe up further and tap Markup for PDF preview of your note.
3. Tap Done → Save File

You now have a pdf!

Lift subject from the background

In iOS16 you can easily lift the subject from an image or isolate the subject by removing the background.

Open an image and long tap on the main subject. A shimmer will appear, and you can click "Copy". You can now paste the image elsewhere.

Customize your lock-screen in iOS16:

1.  Hold on the lock screen. Then click Customise.

2.  Click the image button in the bottom left to select your photos

3.  Swipe left and right to change the style

4.  Click on the clock to change font-style

Edit a message you just sent or unsend a recent message altogether

Long tap on the message you've just sent. From there, you can select "Undo Send" or "Edit".

You can switch between the last used apps by swiping on the bar at the bottom of your phone.

You can quickly set a countdown by long pressing on the timer icon in the control center.

You can avoid clicking back, back, and back when deep into an app by long-pressing the back button.

Save a note as PDF (a hidden feature)

1.  Open the note and tap share icon. Below the title, select Collaborate.

5 features you might not know about
(and how to leverage AI to transcribe your voice memos)

Pause a recording while recording

1.  While recording, tap or swipe up on the recording field at the bottom of your screen to bring it into full-screen view.
2.  Tap the pause symbol to stop recording temporarily.
3.  Tap Resume to continue

Rename your recording

Be sure to give your file a new name so you can find it easily in the future. Here’s how to do that:

1.  Tap the recording.
2.  Tap on the name.
3.  Type your new file name.
(You can also tap on the name while recording)

Trim or delete parts of a recording:

1. Tap the three dots, then Edit Recording
2. Use the crop tool to select the section you want to keep or delete
3. Click Trim or Delete before save

Easily replace part of a voice memo or continue it:

1. Tap the three dots, then Edit Recording.
2. Select the section you want to replace.
3. Tap Replace to start recording and overwrite parts of your previous recording
4. Tap pause when done
5. Check and save changes

Skip silences and enhance the recording:

1. Tap the audio file
2. Tap the settings icon in the top left
3. Turn on Skip Silence and Enhance Recording.
(You can also use the slider to speed up or slow down)
4. Tap the play button

(PS: This doesn't change your original recording)

Transcribe a Recording:

1. Save your audio file to iCloud.
2. Download WhisperBoard for free from the app store
3. Open your file
4. Click on "Transcribe"
5. If the transcription isn't accurate enough, select a different language or use a larger and more precise model.

Bulk rename files in Finder

Select the files you want to rename, right-click on any of them, and select the “Rename…” option from the menu. A dialog box will appear, asking you to specify the criteria for renaming the files.

Search the current folder as the default

Annoyed that every time you use the Search in Finder, you search your entire Mac and not the current folder? Fix it by going to Finder &gt; Settings &gt; Advanced and selecting "Search the current folder" under "when performing a search"

Navigate quickly with the keyboard in Finder

You can use Command and ↑ or ↓ to navigate in and out of folders.

(PS: This don't work in Column-view)

Create Finder shortcuts

You can press ⌘ and drag any app or document, into the toolbar for quick access

Display more folder information in Finder

Go to View and select "Show Path Bar" and "Show Status Bar" to get more information about the current folder location, number of files in folder, and more.

Remove background from images in Finder

Select the images you want to remove the background from, right click and select Quick Actions &gt; Remove Background.

Did you know you can use FaceTime for meetings instead of Zoom, Teams and Google Meet?

Schedule Facetime in Calendar

When creating a new event in Calendar, click location and add FaceTime. You now have scheduled a FaceTime call!

Share a FaceTime link

You can also share a FaceTime link by clicking "Create Link" in FaceTime. It works on other devices as long as they have a browser.

You can also name your call by tapping "Add name" when creating the link.

Blur your background

When having a FaceTime call, you can blur your background by tapping yourself and then the profile icon in the top left corner.

Isolate your voice when talking

Let others hear you better by opening Control Center while on a call. Tap "Mic Mode" and select "Voice Isolation." (This also works on a regular call)

Share your screen in FaceTime

To share what happens on your device click on the iPad with a person in front and select "Share My Screen". The other user will then get a notification to accept seeing your screen.

Watch video together during a FaceTime call

To share a movie or a TV show together, click on the iPad with a person in front and select the app where it streams, and start playing.

NB: Every participant needs to have access to the content on their own device for this to work.

Adjust what you show in your menu bar:

You can drag and drop any element from the Control Center into the menu bar.

You can rearrange the menu bar by holding command (⌘) and dragging them around.

Find the files you are looking for by using filters in Finder search:

Tap the plus under the search area and select if you want to search by date created, file type, name, or more. You can also combine filters by clicking the plus another time.

Speed up your text editing:

If you hold option (⌥) while pressing backspace, it deletes entire words instead of letters.

Hold down the command (⌘) key to delete an entire line while pressing backspace.

You can move faster through text by holding the ⌥ or ⌘ and →↓↑←

Paste text without text styling (bold/italic++):

Command + shift + control + V.

To always paste without formatting:
1. Go to System Preferences &gt; Keyboard &gt; Shortcuts
2. Select App Shortcuts and All Applications
3. Click + and add "Paste and Match Style" + ⌘V

Hide all apps except the one you are currently using:

command (⌘) + option (⌥) + H

Open up the emoji picker:

ctrl + command (⌘) + space.

Bonus: Add MacMoji from GitHub to type :rocket: to get 🚀 etc. as you do on Slack +++.

Toggle Do Not Disturb:

Hold option (⌥) while clicking on the timestamp in the menu bar.

Use the built-in background blur when using a webcam:
(and isolate the microphone to your voice)

1. Open up the Control Center in a call
2. Click Video Effects and select Portrait
3. Click Mic Mode and select Voice Isolation

(PS: M1/M2 Mac only)

Open "Quick Folder Search" when saving files:

Type / in any macOS save dialog.

You can even use ~ to jump to your home folder.

Set up text shortcuts for commonly used tasks:

You don’t have to!

Here is a bulletproof method to remember anything:

Over the last few years, there have popped up a lot of notetaking tools that have a powerful feature named backlinks:
- @RoamResearch
- @obsdmd
- @NotionHQ
- @craftdocsapp

Here is how I leverage backlinks to quickly recall the essential info in every meeting I attend:

Create a new note for every day

In that note, write your notes for the meetings you attend.

Here comes the crucial part:
Whenever you write about a person or company, link to a page (double brackets in most of these programs). 

It doesn't matter if that page exists yet.

After the meeting, when you review your notes, create a page for all the persons and companies that don't exist yet.

My company template looks like this:

My template for a person often looks like this after the first meeting:

By taking notes this way, you suddenly have a personal CRM!

If I meet @thatroblennon again, I can pop up my note-taking program and see all the times I've referenced him.

In the person-note I often write down what we discussed last or details about their family.

My favorite usage for the note is to write down gifts-ideas for them. Next time you need a gift, you know where to look!
